Our 4×4 trucks are hard at work today.

Wednesday 6th January 2010 by Stuart

The Mitsubishi L200, WhatVan’s Best Pick-up 2008, is our Van of the Year 2010!

This truck is a machine and handles brilliantly in the snow. Today the snow is so deep that our other vans, such as the VW Caddies and the Ford Transits, just cannot cope.

Where every other builder could potentially be calling off work because they’re snowed in, Marble Construction will continue to work. With precious deadlines to meet, it is vital that we do not lose a few days due to these unforeseen circumstances.

Cut the VAT!

Saturday 2nd January 2010 by Stuart

VAT on building work, such as lofts and extensions, is far too expensive and needs to be cut.

By doing this, the Government will ensure that millions of home owners will be able to stay where they are and extend their property rather than having to keep moving.

The FMB (Federation of Master Builders) are focused on lowering the new 17.5% VAT rate that takes effect today (January 1st 2010) and are campaigning to have it reduced to just 5% in early 2011. This all sounds good on the surface, but with raw materials like timber, steel and gyprock products going up and up with inflation, something needs to happen in the building industry.

If you feel the same, get behind the Petition and go to cutthevat.co.uk for more details.

Marble construction have just had our second Christmas party and this year it was better than ever. Our guests included the office and on-site staff, our fantastic sub contractors, supportive families and some customers from the year of 2009.

The event took place at Andersons Restaurant in Farnham, Surrey. Their 3 course meal and entertainment was outstanding and has now set the mood for an even better 2010. The evening’s entertainment was from Brian and Amy Flack whom everyone really enjoyed. They played many popular covers and a few Christmas songs to get everyone in the mood.

Loft Conversion in Kingston Upon Thames

Friday 11th December 2009 by steve

Mr and Mrs Willis, from Kingston Upon Thames, contacted Marble Construction in May 2009 and asked us to come over and discuss their needs for an additional bedroom in the loft conversion.

When we met David and Samantha, they were expecting a baby in November and were desperate for an extra bedroom. Moving was not an option as their daughter was in a good school, they were both close to work and family and friends.

We discussed every possible option on how they could extend their house and fairly quickly they both decided to convert the loft space into a master bedroom with an additional bathroom.

When the preliminary plans were drawn it became apparent that the loft could accommodate two double bedrooms and a bathroom fairly easily but, after re-evaluating, the wow factor master bedroom became the big dream they had set their mind on. We looked at the huge space and decided to include a large dressing room area so the room, once completed, would not be cluttered with wardrobes or cupboards.

The short time scale to complete the build and importance of meeting the deadlines was something that most companies would struggle to achieve. But with our experienced and dedicated team, we knew that we could do this.

The project started in October and was completed within an 8 week build schedule. Dave and Sam were fantastic customers to work with even under some very stressful time pressures. Sam said “I thought we had gone mad asking you guys to build such a big building project for us with so little time but you were courteous and respectful for our situation and were so clean I didn’t have to hoover for a month!”

Dave and Sam asked us to finish all the additional bits and pieces such as the bathroom tiling, the hallway decoration and to arrange the fitting of the carpets. David said “It was a pleasure working with the Marble boys; they all knew the deadlines Sam and I were under and did everything possible to make sure they completed in time. The quality of our loft conversion was incredible. We are so impressed with their effort and determination we would recommend them to anyone!’

David and Sam had a beautiful little girl called Maddison in late November and also attended our Christmas party in 2009.

Dave and Sam have went on to hire Marble Construction to build their rear kitchen extension in spring 2010.
