Mansard Roofs

Rear mansards are normally only built when either customers prefer the look of a mansard compared to a rear dormer or if the local authority will only allow planning permission for a mansard.

The design is similar to a rear dormer although the rear slope is at a 70 degree angle instead of a 90 degree. Mansards are quite often seen built up with brick sides to match the existing bricks on the parapet walls, but this can only be achieved through planning permission.

Loft Room

As the rear slope is not built straight off the back wall, it does look a lot softer than a dormer but the downside is that you don’t achieve as much space inside.

Building a rear mansard is a little more expensive than a rear dormer. However, the additional £2,000 is worth paying if all your neighbours have mansards as you will want your loft to blend in with the rest of the street.

Please note:- A minimum of 2.1 meters is required to achieve a rear dormer.
